Maurice Mortell, chief executive, Data Electronics
Maurice Mortell joined Data Electronics in 1991 and was appointed chief executive in 2001. Mortell is a specialist in IT service capabilities and is responsible for the growth and development of the company. He plays a key role in the evolution of company policy, strategy and products.
Mortell has 17 years of experience in the telecoms and internet sectors in Ireland. During his time at Data Electronics he has held a number of senior management positions including financial controller and business development manager. In his capacity as CEO, Mortell has managed the expansion and growth of Data Electronics’ business and the development of a new facility at Northwest Business Park.
Having graduated in Business Studies from the College of Commerce, Mortell spent three years working in the chartered accountancy field before taking up his initial position in Data Electronics.
A seasoned IT specialist, Mortell is a regular speaker on the managed services and Data Centre markets in Ireland. A member of the Telecommunications Information Federation Committee (TIF), he also chairs the Outsourced Services Group within IBEC and sits on the Governing Board of ICT Ireland and the board of the Irish Internet Association.

Founded in 1975, Data Electronics is Ireland’s longest-serving, indigenous data centre provider. A leading provider of IT outsourcing and managed services solutions, the company is based in Kilcarbery Park and Northwest Business Park, Dublin.
In April 2009, Data Electronics opened a new data centre facility in Northwest Business Park, Dublin at a capital investment of €25m. Upon the completion of the final phase of the data centre in the next three to five years, Data Electronics’ workforce will double from 55 employees today to over 100 employees.

The green agenda is high on Data Electronics’ priority list – it aims to ensure that its new data centre will achieve a power usage efficiency rating of 40pc, which will save over €550,000 annually following the implementation of energy-saving technology and environmentally friendly initiatives.
Over the years, Data Electronics has been recognised both at home and abroad for its performance. It was a winner of the Deloitte Best Managed Company 2009, as well as appearing in the Deloitte Fast 50 list each consecutive year between 2004 and 2008, and winning the overall award in 2005. The company was also a recipient of the Environmental Awareness Award in the European Business Awards 2007.
Data Electronics has developed enduring partnerships with firms such as Magnet Business and Novosco.
