About Cisco
Founded by a husband and wife team – Leonard Bosack and Sandra Lerner – at Stanford University in 1984, Cisco Systems has grown into a global technology giant with over 66,558 employees worldwide.
From its humble beginnings, Cisco has established itself as a global industry leader in its core areas of routing and switching, as well as in advanced technologies such as application networking, digital media, telepresence, unified communications, security and virtualisation.
The company’s first Irish operations were established in Eastpoint Business Park in Dublin to provide sales and support operations focused on the domestic market.
Reflecting Cisco’s ongoing commitment to R&D, the company’s global unified communications lab opened in Galway’s Oranmore Business Park in 2008, with the aim of extending the R&D function of the company’s Voice Technology Group.
The Galway lab is involved in developing new applications and services for the company’s unified communications business, focusing on multi-vendor unified communications integrations. It has also been built out as as an integrated lab covering all aspects of engineering, development and testing, and also features an integrated customer-briefing centre.
Cisco currently employs 210 people between its Galway and Dublin locations.
Cisco achieved the Special Recognition: Embracing Diversity Award in the Best Workplaces in Ireland 2009. The company places high importance on open communication, not only in terms of the internet, but also in terms of how staff interact.
